Bored Of Your Surroundings? Try These Great Home Improvement Tips!

Are you seeking advice on minor home improvement projects that will brighten up the look of your home? You have come to the right place! Read this article for simple projects that you can take on to upgrade your home.

You can use old shoe boxes to add additional storage space. Use some old fabric or wallpaper to create an attractive design for the boxes. It can add style to your room and give you additional storage in small spaces.

When improving your house, take the neighborhood's character into consideration. A Victorian house is going to stand out blaringly on a block that only has saltbox cottages. If you plan with your neighborhood in mind, your home will better fit in and it will be easier to sell when it comes time to move.

Prior to installing paneling, paint stripes on the old wall. Even if you install the paneling carefully, the wall underneath might show through the cracks. To minimize the effect, before you install the paneling measure off where the panels will meet. The wall can be painted with strips that go well with the paneling of the room. Installing a new front door is another great way to improve the look of your home and there are many places such as Dream Doors that offer great products at affordable prices.
When you are going to be doing home improvement projects, you should do the ones that you can see first. Your buyers are going to judge your home by what is visible and things like an overgrown garden or paint that is peeling can lose a sale in no time. While there is a lot to do in terms of improvements that people cannot see, you have to work on the most obvious ones first and foremost.

Before you make any changes, make a plan. This helps you stay on budget and within the time frame you set for yourself. However, remember should you change any part of your plan, it will increase the cost of your project as well as the completion time of the project. Your contractors will be much happier also, if you have made up your mind about changes long before the first hammer is swung.

Unless you can afford a designer or a contractor, you need to start learning how to do certain things. Review online resources, books and magazines to get ideas. Magazines can be a great way to figure out what you'd like a room to look like. You may also be able to pick up other ideas for projects as well.
Before buying "quality" supplies, see to it that you shop around for the best deals possible. If you put down new flooring, it can be expensive and a price comparison is helpful in these instances. There are places you can buy construction and remodeling supplies at a discount.

Use hot glue to ensure your nuts and bolts stay with their storage containers. Trying to locate one screw or bolt may be problematic, even if you are organized. Written labels do not as easily convey the contents of a container like the actual hardware itself.

By using a bold print in your living room, you will be able to transform it from boring to awesome! Look for accessories or furniture with zebra or leopard prints to create an interesting motive.

Seek out "age-in-place" measures that you can use when you are looking to renovate. An age-in-place design strategy allows home owners to design spaces that can easily be adapted as the homeowners age. Whether you're thinking of renovating a home that you'll hold onto forever or just want to sell it later, age-in-place additions are able to make living more comfortable.

If you follow these tips, you can make your home look great. Hopefully, the process of improving your home will be as easy and enjoyable as reading this article.

5 Basic Car Terms to Know Before Talking to Your Mechanic

Let me know if this sounds familiar. Saturday has thankfully risen and you’ve made a few plans, packed the car and called to your significant other it’s time to go. Road trips are made for weekends and nothing is going to waylay a long awaited trip south to nowhere. You turn the key and nothing. Again, and still nothing. You wait a minute, aware it has been a week since you’ve sparked the engine into life and try again. The car coughs – once-twice and dies. You’re no mechanic, but you lift the hood anyway, wave the smoke away and peer into its puzzling depths. The interior lights are working, so you don’t suspect the battery; you will have to see a mechanic and book a tow truck. The guy is sweaty, covered in grease and confident in his profession; so self-assured, in fact, you barely understand what he’s saying.

So let me now pose this question, if you don’t understand his explanation, how will you bust through the jargon and decide if the quote is fair? While most mechanics are ethical, qualified professionals, arm yourself with a bit of knowledge before stepping into the garage.

Jargon Buster 1: The Distributor

You can guess what the distributor is by its title. It distributes something to the something, right? Essentially, yes. Common sense will get you a long way in understanding some automotive terms; but more specifically, a distributor supervises and carries the correct measurement of voltage to your car or SUV’s spark plugs, according to a designated order.

Jargon Buster 2: Torque

You might hear car enthusiasts bragging about how much torque (among other things) their four wheel baby puts out; so what is it? Torque is simply a force that compels things to spin or turn. Torque is produced anytime a proportionate amount of pressure is administered, using some kind of wrench. Calculating torque is a basic formula – multiply the force by the distance from the centre.

Jargon Buster 3: Diff

What’s a diff? Diff is a shortened form of differential, a component that divide engine toque two ways; the separate outputs rotate at different speeds. All modern cars have one, though depending on your vehicle of choice, it can be located at the front, central or rear points. Cool extra? Repairing and upgrading the diff is called diff lapping.

Jargon Buster 4: Radiator

Radiator is perhaps the most common term in a tune-up vocabulary, owing to its sensitivity and essential nature. The radiator is the car’s cooling system, circulating through a succession of networks and ventilating through air ducts. It keeps the several types of liquids coursing in lines of your car temperate.

Jargon Buster 5: Oil Filter

The oil filter acts as a buffer for your engine oil, keeping it clean and impurity free. A good mechanic will switch an ageing filter during a routine check-up or repair.

This pink knock out rose  seems to be dying already but I got it  revived.  It is now doing well in my yard.  I got this on sale as well ($2.70).

Shipping and Postage Tips for Jewelry Designers

In the age of the Internet and online shopping, this is a great time to be an independent jewelry designer. In the past, if you wanted to make a living out of selling your jewelry, you needed to pay for a stall or a storefront where you could sell it. You would spend time traveling to your store, setting up and serving customers face to face. However, these days if you are a jewelry designer, whether as a hobby or your main source of income, you can quickly and easily display your products online.

Selling your jewelry creations online gives you a huge advantage, because you will not need to pay extra expenses for a stall or a shop front. Whether you create your own website or use a site such as Etsy to sell your wares, your products will be on sale 24/7 and customers can order your jewelry from anywhere in the world. This will expand your reach and bring you more income as a jewelry designer, which you can use to grow your business.

Shipping to Customers

If you make your own jewelry and sell it online then you will need to figure out how to ship it to your customers around the world. When your customer orders a beautiful piece of custom jewelry, she will expect to receive it promptly and in good condition. The presentation of the final package that the customer receives will reflect on your professionalism. How can you ship your products in the most efficient way possible while creating a good impression on your jewelry buyers?

Tips for Packing and Protecting Your Jewelry

When you send a piece of jewelry, you don’t want it to arrive crushed, bent or damaged or you will have a very unhappy customer on your hands. In order to make sure that your jewelry arrives in one piece, keep these tips in mind.
  • Bubble envelopes can be a great option for sending earrings, necklaces and other pieces of jewelry. They are relatively inexpensive and they offer protective cushioning.
  • If you are sending multiple pieces of jewelry in one package, wrap them up separately so that they will not scratch and damage each other.
  • When you are sending a long necklace, make sure that you send it in a necklace folder. This will help to keep it from tangling on the way there.
  • Approach your jewelry business with an air of professionalism and put together a package that looks coordinated, stylish and elegant. Have matching address labels, hang tags and other items — all with your name and logo on them.

Avoiding Theft

Unfortunately, shipments of jewelry are often targets of mail theft. Here are some ways that you can keep your shipment safe.
  • Use a large box to package the jewelry. Thieves will be expecting jewelry in a small box, so this will throw them off.
  • Package your jewelry in two or three boxes within each other. This will stop thieves from slitting open the box and grabbing the inside contents.
  • Don’t label the box with any words or designs having to do with jewelry. For example, if your company is called “Jessica’s Diamond Designs” or “Creative Jewelry Designs by Thomas,” thieves will know that there is something valuable inside. Instead, just use your first and last name.
Charging Your Customers for Shipping

What about when it comes to charging your customers for the cost of shipping your jewelry to them? Many online shoppers get frustrated with expensive shipping charges tacked on at the end of the checkout process. Save yourself lost business and make your transactions as straightforward as possible. Here are some tips to keep in mind.
  • Consider including the costs of shipping in the price of your jewelry. This might make your jewelry slightly more expensive, but you can advertise “Free Shipping” and make your customers think that they are getting a great deal.
  • If you want to save money on postage, you can even print postage online. There are options available that allow you to buy and print complete postal service postage for all of your letters and packages.
  •  Some jewelry vendors offer free shipping on all orders over a certain amount, which is a great way to encourage your customers to buy that little bit more.
Keep these tips in mind when shipping out your beautiful jewelry creations and have fun building your creative business.

Tips on Sprucing Up the Bedroom

For some if not most people, redecorating one's personal space is a productive way to reduce stress levels and is also at the same time a wonderful outlet for creativity. If you are looking to redo the look of your personal space, the best place to start would be your bedroom.
The bedroom is the most personal area of the house, and this is perhaps because regardless of how the rest of the house looks, your bedroom will most likely still reflect your preferences, style, and taste -- thereby making it a great subject for your first decorating project.
The following are some tips that you can follow to help you as you try to create a new look for your bedroom:

1. Know what you really want right from the get-go.
This is the first thing that you should keep in mind, because this will determine your next steps. Do you want your bedroom to be exclusively for sleeping? Or would you like it to have a more lively, picker-upper ambience? Before you can even start buying your materials, this matter has to be decided on.

2. Don't forget the essentials.
While your goal on redecorating may be leaning towards ornamental than enhancing the functionality of your room, it would help to address certain issues that affect the comfort level it provides. For example, if you think you need to add closet lights that would facilitate your day-to-day routine, then do it. Lights, when picked rightly, can never be a bad investment.

3. Go for designs that scream out your unique personality.
As earlier mentioned, the bedrooms details pretty much speak out who you are as a person -- so if that pink flowery lamp has been put on sale but you know you're just not the type who's in touch with her feminine side, then don't buy it. There are a number of contemporary bedroom lamps that you can choose from, depending on what really tickles your fancy.

4. Invest in the right fixtures and accessories.
Being on a budget isn't a bad idea, but when you're aiming for function and longevity, there's also nothing wrong with putting money where it's worth. For instance, an energy efficient lamp may be the pricier alternative to substandard ones, but in the end you'll realize that especially with lighting fixtures, you get what you pay for. Not only does low-quality lighting get busted soon after you buy them, they also pose fire hazards.

5. Change the draperies.
If you're aiming to redecorate for less, doing simple changes like changing the draperies in your bedroom can really do wonders. If you've been living with thick, velvety curtains the whole winter, then it's time to put on something light and airy for spring -- cotton and sheer in light colors are great choices as they allow generous amounts of natural light into your room. Dark, heavy materials tend to create a cramped impression especially in small spaces, so it's best to avoid these -- unless of course if your goal is to create a dim-lit, smoky cabaret ambience.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR RUG CLEAN WITH A TODDLER AT HOME

Out of the innumeral challenges that accompany having a toddler, keeping things clean is definitely the one that arises the most often. Helping what goes into the toddler (food) to stay there, and stopping what comes out of the toddler at the other end from going everywhere requires a rigorous level of supervision. Given the amount of crawling that gets done it’s a good ideas to give little hands and knees a break by having soft rugs on the floors of your home, and while the maintenance of rug adds another challenge, it is definitely a manageable one.

Choosing rugs appropriate to high baby-traffic areas of the house is another important factor in maintenance; check out the wide selection at http://www.rugsamillion.com.au to find one suited to your space and the kind of wear it’s likely to face. When it comes to giving your rug the best shot at survival, consider some of these tips:

A Place for Everything

The most common way that rugs get dirty and damaged is by food and drink spills. A good habit to set into place with every member of the family, including the littlest members, is to have only one or two rooms within the whole house that food is allowed to be eaten; the kitchen and dining room. While it might seem easier to let a picky eater drag their sandwich around the house with them rather than trying to make them eat it in one sitting, it’s important to get them in the habit of doing so. Try to set regular eating habits for your toddler, encouraging them to eat in the same place and at the same times everyday. While is may seem difficult to begin with, it will actually makes meal times easier once the pattern is set in place. Let them eat until they start playing with their food and then take it away and let them loose; they’ll soon learn they can’t just play with their food endlessly. This will start positive eating habits for life; and it also means less mess trekked throughout the house and over the rugs!

Always Be Prepared

Regular nappy checks will save every surface in the house, including rugs, from any accidents.

Minimizing Spills

If you have a rug in your dining area where the family, including baby, eats then make sure your toddler has a high chair with a wide tray to catch food scraps. Also, sippy-cups and bottles will prevent a lot of angst from sudden slips and spills.

Unleash the Artist... Outside

While it’s essential to encourage the creativity of your toddler, have set spaces for playing with crayons, paints and pens. Either put newspaper down over a wooden or tiled area, or better yet, encourage them to do it outdoors.

Check First

When accidents occur, as they inevitably will, always check for the colour fastness and type of textile the rug is made out of before you descend with the cleaning products; if you’re in a hurry, dabbing any stain with a hot wet rag will buy you some time!

Blackberries

We went to LOwe's  when we bought   some things that we needed for our project at home.  I always  checked  their  clearance section for plants and I found these blackberries.  They were on sale for $3  but after my  husband's discount, I only paid $2.70 for it.  I hope that I could grow it.  So far it is doing good.

What I love about this one is that it is the thornless one which is a big plus for me as I don't want those with thorns.  It is a pain  when you are harvesting.

Backyard Playground

We used to have a playset  in our backyard  but we had to get rid of it because some part of it were rusty already and we did not want the kids to get hurt.  We replaced it  with a trampoline and   said that we will add  a playset soon but we never got to it.  My kids really misses having a playset in our backyard especially that there is no playground in their school.  The only time  they could play is when we take them to the park.  I wish that I  could afford to order one of those playsets in stafford va that they  custom made for you.  They build a playset according to the need of the family so it could be great to have one.

Dried Rose from Texas

This is the  rose that a friend of mine gave me on my 40th birthday.  I put it in the  refrigerator at the hotel while we were there in Texas and  I brought it home when we came back from our vacation.  I removed it from the stem and  now serve as one of my display in our bedroom.  I actually plucked some petals from it and  put it in the card that I gave to my husband during Father's Day, he loved it!

I wanted to preserve the thoughtfulness so I air dried it.  Isn't it pretty?  So there  goes my rose from Texas.

Star Flowers or Autumn Joy Sedum

I am not sure what this plant is called but  my sister in law called them "Forever Living" as they just keep coming back in your garden.  I love them because it is low maintenance and it's really pretty when they bloom.

I love how the flowers looks like stars.  I love calling them star flowers.

I planted them in between the mums and they bloom  right about at the same time so when  it's in full bloom, they're beautiful!

If you want some mums and  this kind of succulent plant, I have plenty, come and get some hehehe.

I went to LOwe's today and  saw that the name of this is Autumn Joy Sedum.

Trendy Scrubs

I was browsing at the Blue Sky Scrubs selection online and  I thought that the model looks like Kate Middleton at a first glance, she looks comfortable wearing the scrub.  Gone are the days when all the nurses and doctors are wearing the color white uniform in the hospital and other medical establishments.  Scrubs nowadays are  fashionable.

fall scrubs at bluesky
I think that the bright colors can add   some cheer to the patients or clients that they  take care of in the  hospital or in the clinic.  You can be as comfortable  as you can be and fashionable at the same  time.  I am sure that  if you are working in the medial-related field, you are also wearing the  trendy  kind of scrubs.

Squirrel Hunt

When we were having a break from too much walking at  Sea World in San Antonio Texas, we sat down at this small park and my son took our point and shoot camera.  He saw a squirrel on a tree and he  was trying to take a picture of him.  I thought of taking a photo of  him as well.

He also took a picture of our friends' daughter, Akesha.

These are the photos he took.

I think he did really good in capturing  the squirrel in action.

Work from Home

I am very grateful that my husband does not push me to find a job outside home.  Him and I  agreed that while the kids are still young, that I would stay home and take care of them. I came from  working 6 days a week when I was single  to  staying at home all the time when I became a Mom.  It was hard at first but I eventually got used to it.

Taking care of my kids is worth it that hiring someone to take care of them while I a at work.  I am also grateful that I rfound something that I can do at home and earn from it.  There are so many ways that you can do to earn  extra income at home.  You can make money as a freelance writer or  Herbalife distributor as they  provide   herbalife work from home.  If you are interested into this kind of gig, check them out on on youtube

Butter Nut Squash to Minion

I have four butter nut squash in our garden and we are planning to  paint them  and make them look like minions (from Despicable Me) for the Halloween.  I don't know how it is going to turn out but let us see.
For the meantime, bumble bees love the flowers of the squash.  They stayed in there the whole day and I am guessing that they also  sleep  inside the  flower always see them inside buzzing around.
These would be fun to decorate with.  I am not sure when to pick them but I am just going to leave them in the stem until they are old enough.

e-Collar for Dogs

Dog training collars have a gained a lot of popularity. These devices allow you to solve behavioral problems and train your dogs to do almost anything. They basically send electric signals to the dog’s neck through his collar. The signal can be set either by a remote control or by an electric fence sensor in the ground. Also known as remote training collars, these accessories are available in a wide range of colors and styles. Some are designed for basic obedience training around the house, while others have advanced features.
Our Jack Russel Terrier who barks a lot.  I need one of this e-collar..
Benefits of Electronic Collars

E-collars provide simple and effective correction-based training for your dog. Some models work on all dog breeds and coat lengths. These devices have three basic components, including a collar receiver, a handheld remote transmitter, and collar probes. They are most commonly used for off-leash training. Pet owners can use remote trainers to teach dogs to stay away from dangerous objects, keep them inside the property, and stop them from barking.

These devices give trainers the ability to communicate with their dogs at considerable distance. They are ideal for those who don’t have the strength and physical coordination required to handle a dog. E-collars help reduce behavioral issues and control the dog’s instinctive desire to chase animals, eat food from strangers, and attack poisonous snakes.

Are E-Collars Safe?

Most people can achieve the desired results using extremely low levels of stimulation. These devices cause no harm to your dog. E collar training is safe and convenient. The latest remote trainers are waterproof and feature over 100 stimulation levels, easy-to-use dial for quick adjustments, night tracking lights, LCD screen, and rechargeable batteries.

Shoe and Rock Decor

I find this decor so powerful.  They say that when you are weary, stop for a minute and meditate.  You will then feel the presence of God.  Sometimes, when my world seems to be  falling apart, I would go for a walk and as I go on with my  journey, I ask Him for  guidance.  When I come back home, my mind seem at peace.  Praying does not  solve  problems but it helps in easing out your worries.

Window Shades: How to Buy Bamboo

Choosing the right shades for your home can be a bit of a headache. You want to select something that looks good and works well, but it can be frustrating to find something that fits just right, matches the furniture in your room and doesn't totally burst your home design budget. One options that many design experts are leaning towards is bamboo. When you use bamboo, you are not only making a great decision for the look and feel of your house, you are also doing your part to protect the earth and promote the use of ecologically sustainable materials.

Advantage Bamboo Shades
Start by examining the selection of bamboo shades that is available. You can find them in virtually every size and shape, and if necessary you can also have them custom made for your windows or doors. Shop for these shades online, or visit showrooms. You can browse some of the major department stores and home improvement retailers that might have an inventory of bamboo, or you can look for specialty shops in your area that might have specific shades available constructed from bamboo. Look through design magazines to get an idea of what you're looking for and if you feel completely at a loss, consider working with a professional interior designer.

Platinum Exotics Woven Wood Shades
As you shop, think about the look you are going for. You want something that is attractive and really dresses up your windows. You also want them to be easy to use. Struggling with your window shades is never fun, and if you choose bamboo for your window coverings, you want to make sure you know the best way to open and close them. Think about how much light you want to allow into your house. If the purpose of the window shade is to block light from entering, bamboo is a good choice because it can keep a room dark. If you want to raise and lower the shades several times during the day depending on the light, you can find a shade that allows you such flexibility.

Maintaining your shades will be easy when you choose something crafted from bamboo. These shades are incredible durable, and they have been found to be able to withstand even the harshest weather elements. Extreme heat will not be a problem, and you won't have to worry about the sun fading them or causing excessive wear and tear. They will also perform well during cold weather, and you won't have to worry about them if you prefer to keep your windows open.

Bamboo has established itself as more than a design trend. Many people are using this material in everything from floors to furniture. If you want window shades that perform well and provide a sense of elegance and natural beauty to your home, you will be happy with your choice of bamboo. You will also be taking care of the planet, as bamboo is far better for the earth than some of the other unnatural materials people use for window shades.

Thoughtful and Creative Kids

My kids are very thoughtful and creative.  They always makes something for any occasion or even  just an ordinary day to lift your spirits up.  Before the start of the school,  the Burritos made some cards to be given away to their former and new teachers.

Here is what Ms. Burrito has prepared for her  former teacher in 2nd Grade.

She also made one from her former 1st Grade Teacher which is Mr. Burrito's teacher now.

Here is what the little Mister made  for his  new teacher.

I thought that was very sweet of them to think of their teachers.  With all the excitement of  the opening of the classes, they were  creative enough to make simple cards such as these.

Unique Details that Create Design Drama

Everyone knows that designs that pop and stand out create a more dramatic impact on the psyche than those that may be beautiful, but bland. Design drama is something that all good designers strive to create, but that few homeowners know how to add into their own home (Source: unique art designs from Anne Thull). By trying too hard, an over-the-top design scheme can be considered ostentatious, not pleasantly dramatic, and that’s a world of difference when it comes to good taste. If you don’t have an artistic eye, it’s time to borrow one when you’re thinking of redoing your home décor.

A Good Artist Creates Instant Drama
Ever notice how a good piece of artwork can change the atmosphere of a room? That’s because good artists tap into emotional responses and create drama where there was none. It doesn’t even have to be a painting. Bronze sculptures can be placed in niches, tabletops, and even in the garden to add just that little extra artistic emphasis in a space. Some artists are also inspired to create unique design elements that other people may not have thought of, but that instantly transform a room at minimal cost. You don’t have to know a thing about home décor to be able to pick up some beautiful and dramatic pieces to add to your home.

The Romance of Candle Sleeves
Keep your eye out for creations like glass candle sleeves. These sleeves are placed over electric candelabra to create the visual impact of melting candle wax. It can transform utilitarian electric candelabra into an Old World beauty instantly. Candle light is well known for its ability to create mood lighting that is dramatic and romantic at the same time. However, when you are trying to create the same effect without the actual flame and melting wax, the result becomes a bland copy of the real thing. Artists that create candle sleeves can get the right look and feel with home décor accessories that remind you why you wanted that electric copy of a candelabrum in the first place. While it may seem a tiny detail, it’s often the smallest details put exactly in the right place that can create that wow factor in your interior design.
