Redecorating Our Master Bedroom #HangoutRoom

When we first moved into this home, we didn't know which part of the bedroom would be best to put our bed so we put away from the windows. That was a big mistake because, the light from outside is too bright that it was keeping me awake even with curtains closed. So to address the issue, hubby and I repositioned our bed and put it on the other side of the wall.
Our bedroom is the biggest room in this house so we had plenty of space.  I asked my husband to  build me a walk-in closet on that side where I  put the  couch but it doesn't look like he is likes the idea.  Two of the bedrooms have walk-in closets but our  bedroom which is a bummer because my clothes won't fit in  the  small Mr. and Mr's closet near the bathroom.  I know, I need to  trim down my clothes in order for everything to fit so that is what I will do.
Our kids love to  hang out with us before bedtime so they would jump in our bed.  The issue is that, our bed get so crowded that we  hardly have space to  move around so I ordered an area rug to put on the floor so we could all gather around it if we need to.
My husband inherited his Dad's old military chest  so I wanted to incorporate it in our bedroom rather than buying a table.  Inside the chest is  my husband's childhood stuff and military memorabilia.   Also kept in there  the flag that  they gave us during my father-in-law's funeral as part of the 21-gun salute honor they did for him.
We read  the Bible on Mondays and also read books on Tuesdays so we  now have an official place to do it.

My daughter brought her bean bag in our "hang out room", that's what they call it now.
Our fur babies are bummed out because we restricted them from  coming in this space.  It might sound mean but they shed so much so what we do is hang out with them in our family room before going upstairs and in order for them not to feel left out, we  put them in their bed before we  go to ours.

This Martha Stewart collection Camille 10-Pc. Queen Comforter Set was on a close out sale  at Macy's and I could not pass the deal.  It also matched perfectly with our aqua color theme so even though I just bought a new bedding last November< I jumped on getting this one too.
My husband said "When it rains, it pours".  He was  asking me to buy a new  bedding  last year but due to budget constraints, I held off but now that we could afford it, I went for it.  So from Hallmart collectible to Martha Stewart, our bedroom got a new look.
I still wish my husband would make a walk-in closet someday lol.  He said he has to check if we have to follow a certain code  for it but I think it is  alright.  He is right though, we need to make sure before adding anything so that when it's time to sell this house, there won't be no issue.  I still think a walk-in closet is a big plus for women when buying a house.  What do you think?

It's Great to Be Home!

I have been very occupied  with our projects at home.  We just got done with our project at the basement which was building a storage shelving for our seasonal stuff.  I am very pleased to have that done because  all of the things that were scattered in the basement are now  organized.  We also  finished upgrading our powder room and it turned really well.
We bought some rugs to add some color in our family room, living room, dining room and some of the bedrooms.  The couch you see in this picture is now in o the master's bedroom.  We bought a new couch for the family room.
We have moved this couch in our master's bedroom.  We  replaced it with a love seat instead.  This is how it looks now.
I love the accent chair that we found at Macy's.  It's perfect for our Asian theme.
The burgundy couch that we moved from  the family room to our master's is now covered with an aqua blue  slip cover.  I think it compliment well with the seasalt color pain on the wall and the  color of our window treatments.
We have been  moving and re-arranging furniture.  If I can  afford to hire an interior designer, I would   let them do it because they can do it with no problem.
Our living room has now a different look than these photos.  We finally  agreed on  some arrangement lol.  I will take  some photos of it when I get the chance.
We love hanging out in the living room because our daughter  always play  Christmas songs on the piano.  We have  decorated for Christmas   the day  before Thanksgiving. I am glad my husband did not object lol..
I got this artificial orchid on sale at TJMaxx.  I put it in the living room at first but then changed my mind and put it in the family room instead.
I love decorating.  I wish I have a proper training  in interior designing, it would have been nice.  If I will be given a chance to  go to school, I would either take interior designing or photography courses because those  are my passions.  For now I will just do what I can and how I see fit for my family.  It doesn't really matter how it looks, the most important thing is we are all comfortable to live in our home.
While waiting for the  slip covers that I bought online, I put the throws on the couch and love seat for the meantime because I don't like the feel of the material of these new furniture that we bought.  All of these moves  was hard because it is us who did it with the help of the kids.
On another note, I have never gone to a Black Friday sale because I am scared of bracing the cold and the crowd.   We do however try to shop online but this year, I didn't really got the chance to do it because we were  very busy.  I did looked at musians friends website to see if they have good deals on  electric guitar  but I didn't have a luck.  My husband and I  went to Center for Music and Arts but they didn't have a stock of the one that we like.  We will go back there  next week to see if they have it already.

Decorating with My Daughter

Our daughter might be small for her age but she can do a lot of things especially around the house.  We shared the same interest in decorating, photography, and our style in fashion are very similar.  She received a wall decal and other things  as a gift for her birthday from our friend and she was very excited to work on it.
It is so much fun to  do some decorating around the house with her help.  She have so many ideas and sometimes she would suggest things that I never thought of doing and I would say "Wow, why didn't I think of that?"
Her aspirations  include of becoming an interior designer, an astrophysicist, and a musician.  I told her that it is great to have  dreams to pursue in the future.  I mean, she is still young and I am sure that her interests will change as she grow up but it is always great to talk to them about their dreams.  We never know what the future holds, she might become a business owner like the guitar center in nj or a great musician.  You never know.
As parents, it is important that we encourage our children to dream and to pursue those dreams.

Geometric Design and Color Scheme Patterns Plus a Cool Looking Fan

In the past couple of years, our daughter have  changed a lot.  It is not much on the physical aspect as she is tiny  like me but  emotionally and mentally, she has grown a lot.   Before,  she never liked her hair  being brushed  so I  had to  tell her that I will cut it if she doesn't take care of  it, that is when she would brush  it.  From that scenario, she is now  become so  conscious of her looks, always  looking at the mirror and  fixing her own hair.  She also gotten into the mood of organizing, cleaning , and now that she has her new bedroom, she became so much interested in interior designing.
I mentioned that she painted the bottom of her walk-in closet with the geometric pattern where she used  painters tape to form the  shapes.  She did all that by herself.  At 11, you would think she would be interested in  other things but not her.  I always think that she is so mature  for her age.
She did all the organizing herself which I am very proud of because she  wasn't like that a couple of years ago.  She was the messiest girl I knew but now, she has evolved into this little organizer  like her Mom lol.
This is the  pattern that inspired her to   go for a geometric theme on her bedroom.
When she told me that she wanted to use French gray to paint her bedroom, I was hesitant. I thought, that wouldn't be girly and would look boring for a girl bedroom but when she showed me  the  colors and designs of  things that she want  to design her room, I gave it a go.
She painted  this owl on a canvas  when she had her first  field trip   with her  gifted class.  We hanged it above her laundry basket to give this corner of her room some pop of colors.
Now, her dresser is always organized and  tidy.  She is really becoming a little lady.

She does  DIY projects on her spare time this summer.  She did this cute jewelry  hanger/holder which I thought was very chic and unique.  She used the  rocks that our  neighbor gave her  and glued  them on the frame.

The alarm clock that  our family friend sent her for her birthday matches perfectly with the bamboo accent we bought for her room.
The bright colors of furniture and other things  she got  really made the  bedroom look alive and girly.  She drew these geometric dinosaurs and framed it.  We hanged it  on top of her  newly painted desk.

This is the  desk I had in our bedroom at our old house and she wanted to  give it a new look so my husband sanded it and we helped her paint it. She did most of the work  on the desk, I only helped her paint  with the white.
She also gave the  book  shelf a new look.  She sanded and  painted it by herself to match the  desk.
I find it amusing to see how our kids are just like mini version of ourselves.  She constantly changes the arrangement of her desk, every time I go on her bedroom, the  arrangement is different and that is  just like me.  This is how she arranged it before.
Our former  neighbor, invited them for a movie night yesterday and gave her a  gift card for her birthday.  So today, we took her to  Target for a little shopping trip and she bought the lamp and the  pencil organizer.  Now that she  bought some accessories like the lamp and pencil organizer, she changed it again into this.
She also bought this geometric design planes on a frame to hang above her beds. This year, I started  the Good Point chart for them where in   if they help with the chores  around the house, they get good points and those points can be converted into cash.  Not only it is working great for me but  it is also teaching them the value of hard work.
I was laughing when she was paying for her merchandise today because she looked  sick, she looked like she was going to throw up as she was handing the cashier of her money lol.  I also found it very effective to let them manage their own  "little money" while shopping as they   get the understanding of how  hard earned money works.  They don't really want to spend it  to something that  isn't valuable lol.
So now her bedroom is almost complete.  The only thing missing is the  desk chair that she wanted from Office Depot.  We were not able to get it because we ran out of time today and the space  of of our CRV's trunk won't accommodate her  chair.
I was giggling when she saw this white tower fan that Ozeri sent us for review  because she wanted to trade her  fan with this.  I told her that there is no geometric design to it but she said that  the circle matches her wall clock.  She got it all figured out lol.  Our bedrooms upstairs have  window AC's installed  but we only used them during  night time so we can sleep comfortable so during the day, we uses  electric fan.
Not having air condition at the  first floor of our  new house is so unbearable for my husband as he is not used to  hot weather.  It doesn't really bother me as I am used to this kind of weather back home and besides, we have  Ozeri fans in most of our rooms downstairs so it is comfortable.  His plan is to get a big AC unit for downstairs but for now that we can't afford it yet, these fans are life savers.
So glad Ozeri really do have great selection of cool, modern, and high tech fans that is space savers and has  noise reduction technology. It really help us cool down  with the hot  and humid temperature we have been getting lately.   You can buy them  through amazon for $99.95 with free shipping.
