The Magical Italian Cities

Italy was always a dream holiday destination of mine as a child, and I used to spend hours poring over holiday brochures with my Grandmother as we decided where I would visit first. I was in my twenties by the time I first made it over there, but it was well worth the wait! The country has so much to offer for every traveler, with bustling metropolitan cities, medieval hill top towns, and sunny seaside resorts; however my personal favorites are Florence, Venice and Rome.

Florence

Florence was my first experience of an Italian city, and is now also my number one choice of holiday destination. Every morsel of food I've experienced in Florence has been out of this world, from street vendors and inexpensive family run restaurants to five star restaurants and high class enotecas (wine bars). The city is full of history, amazing architecture and museums, and the majestic Duomo is a must see.

Rome

Rome does not disappoint for those looking for world renowned art and architecture, everywhere you turn there is something wondrous to the eye. A visit to the Sistine Chapel to see Michaelangelo's awe inspiring frescoes is essential, and whilst there don't miss out on the wall frescos painted by Botticelli. To ensure a return to this historic city, be sure to throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain and make a wish, as legend has it you are guaranteed to come again!

Venice

Venice, known as the 'Most Serene', is arguably one of the world's most beautiful cities, with miles of canals overlooked by beautiful stone buildings jostling for position along the canal sides. The sight of the gondolas drifting past as you sit and sip your morning coffee is peaceful and inspiring, and of course taking a gondola ride is a truly romantic experience. Watching the local craftsmen blowing glass and producing beautiful jewelry, ornaments and other products is sure to tempt you to buy, but do think about how you are going to carry it home safely!

Making the Trip Happen

For those wishing to experience the wonders of all three of these magical cities but without the time and effort of organizing it yourself, Trafalgar Tours offer an 11 day escorted tour around them, also taking in the Amalfi Coast and the Isle of Capri.

The 'Be My Guest' dinner included in the tour, where you visit a castle on a wine and olive estate in Florence one evening, looks like an experience not to be missed!
